Virtual Snow And Rain

Put together this simple program today in celebration of Christmas. The zip file contains two programs that do exactly as they say. Enjoy and have a nice Christmas!

Get them here!

Random Background Picker ( Multiple Time Options)

How to use:
Click on one of the programs ONCE (1st changes every hour, 2nd changes every 10 minutes, 3rd changes every 10 seconds and 4th allows for custom image range choice and custom delay)
Allow internet access (try running as Admin if program fails to work)
Enjoy your random wall paper!
(WARNING: NOT ALL IMAGES MAY BE APPROPRIATE)

This text was taken from the instruction file. Gets random images or images from a specific category and applies them as wall paper every user selected time period. Careful with this one as extremely big values will crash the program and small values may lag your computer or use up large amounts of bandwidth. Enjoy!

Please note that this may fail to work when run as an EXE. file or run without Microsoft Small Basic installed.

Triangle Time

It is indeed triangle time. Enjoy your triangles.

YOU WILL ALSO NEED THIS IN SAME FOLDER AS .EXE!

Microbit Musical Instrument

I put together a very simple instrument using my BBC Microbit. All you need to do to make your own is download the hex file here to the Microbit then rig it up to a speaker or headphones with a crocodile clip as shown in the diagram below. Pressing the 'A' button makes the tone go up by a single note while the 'B' button makes the tone go down a single note. A value lower than -10 or higher than 10 is automatically set back to 0. 'A+B' plays the note. I advise putting a piece of plastic on the buttons to allow both buttons to be pressed easily at once while still allowing for each button to be pressed individually. Have fun and subscribe to this page for more cool things!

CS:GO New free-to-play complete version out now.

In an interesting move, valve has made one of it's most profitable games, CS:GO completely free (ignoring the paid option that seems only to exist as compensation for the paying players). This is likely to help increase the dying player base and make more money of microtransactions, skins and loot boxes. Opening the flood gates may have some negative consequences, but time will tell. You can get it here if your interested:

Game Of The Month: Farcry 2

This months game of the month is Farcry2. Often considered the best game in the series, Farcry2 was an innovator of world design with a world that holds up even to this very day and is often sited as an example for how to build a believable and engaging world. It also has one of the most unique openings to a game I can think of. You begin the game in a cab headed for a hotel. You plan to assassinate the famous arms dealer know only as 'The Jackal'. However, before you reach the hotel, you get bitten by a mosquito, and are infected with malaria. You then awake in a hotel room with the very man you were sent to kill staring you in the face. This sets the tone for the entire game and effectively presents the main antagonist to the player. The game also has the forgotten but great amBX feature, allowing for amBX compatible devices to take in game scenarios and parallel them in the real world (changing local lighting conditions, causing vibrations and wind etc). This system has seemingly been forgotten about, but defiantly makes the experience more unique if you can track down any amBX compatible products. Overall, this game is a brilliant sandbox shooter that allows you to deal with any situation in the way you want within a beautiful and well designed world full of interesting content. As an added bonus, it almost runs on any device, so you won't have to worry about investing in a gaming pc. I would recommend this experience to anyone who fancies a long and deeply engaging game with gritty realism to play for a while. Stay tuned for next months game of the month!

Gallium Arrow Head

Despite it being a bad idea, I have made a gallium arrowhead. I simply used the mould pictured bellow (download here) and dipped the shaft of the arrow into the liquid gallium and waited for it to cool. The density of gallium makes it a bad idea to use, but the ease of making the arrows makes up for it (even if they do break after one use normally).

Simple Paint

I put together this so super painting tool in Microsoft Small Basic. It allows the user to move a brush around the screen in a very rudimentary way. It took very few lines of code, preserving space and therefore keeping the file size down. Download it here. For those of you interested in the code, the import code is 'LHG790'. Hope you can find some use for it.

Subliminal Stimuli

Just a set of two examples of subliminal stimuli. Perhaps a little too slow to classify as 'subliminal' stimuli but should be useful for a couple of tests. Publishing results from 5 test subjects soon so stay posted! (Both images created by Henstargames, available for use anywhere royalty free.)

^ 'Blink' response.

Test image two is likely going to be more successful in my opinion, leave your guesses in the comment section below!

Simple Small Basic Quiz Example

Import code: ZXZ876
Executable File: DOWNLOAD
This program acts as a simple quiz. Answer the questions correctly or incorrectly and it will say so. Has a little surprise at the end and is fully editable, so you can use it as a template.
Recommended edits: Scoreboard (Easy to add), Local Leader-board (Somewhat tricky to add), User Friendly UI (requires near complete rewrite of program).

Why Article 13 ('Meme Ban') Will Not Be The End Of Memes.

Recently, I have noticed many people getting riled up about the supposed meme banning article 13. While it is an irritating set of restrictions that may damage the internet as we know it, it certainly will not stop meme culture. It's not even in affect yet and people have already devised endless ways to circumvent it such as hand drawing memes, distorting images slightly or using completely copyright free images. Many people have tried to put an end to the mighty meme since the creation of the internet and the first meme, but all have failed (and usually end up becoming a meme for their troubles, much to their dismay). So fear not, the meme will live on for ever. Subscribe to Henstargames to get regular updates on the situation and help me grow this passion project a little. Thank you for reading and may your memes be dank.

Game Of The Month: Cave Story

Remember game of the month? Well, it's back (for no particular reason)! This month's game is Cave Story. This legendary game was developed over the span of five years by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya. This metroidvania adventure takes place inside a floating island situated above the earth after a huge war. As the main character Quote (an amnesia-suffering robot), you must try stop the evil doctor from weaponizing the Migma and using them to take over the surface with your trusty weapons and brilliantly tight controls. The story is deep and engaging, the combat easy to pick up but hard to master and above all, it's simply a blast to play. This game is a must play for all metroidvania fans. It has come out on many platforms, including the Nintendo Wii, Switch and 3DS as well as Microsoft Windows and Linux. Stay tuned for next game of the month!

New project nearing completion. (Ready to play)

I decided to start a new project with one simple goal in mind ; to create the simplest MMO ever. For those who do not know, MMO stands for massively multiplayer online game. So, according to this definition, my new website that allows users to gain the only comment spot in the website by changing it to whatever they like from whatever the last person left could be considered a 'game' and the multiple users who end up stumbling upon it on the internet could be considered 'players', thus making it a massively multiplayer online game. Pointless stuff aside, if you want to leave a random message the link right now is https://henstarminer.wixsite.com/freestar . I will soon change it to a better domain. Enjoy and leave whatever you want so long as it doesn't get you or me in trouble.

Checkers In Half Life 1

I have put together this little HL1 map that allow two players to play checkers in space. The players can push each individual counter around the board. Standard checkers rules apply. Oh, and if you get bored, rumour has it that there are some guns stashed away somewhere. All relevant files are in the zip available down below. I don't mind it if you make you own version but it would be nice if you could leave a link to this site somewhere.

Game Of The Month: Counter Strike Condition Zero

This months game of the month is Counter Strike Condition Zero. This underrated classic lets you play Counter Strike, but with more game play differentiation and bots that don't judge every move you make. Jokes aside, this game is great fun to play, even to this day. It's a breath of fresh air to Counter Strike and Counter Strike Global Offensive players even if it is only a little different. Oh, and you can get up to some crazy stuff in custom operations from the community or even make your own. Get it while it's still cheap in the steam sale!

Needlessly Offensive Games

In recent years, the number of offensive games are on the rise. Many games contain content that may be seen as offensive by certain people for numerous different reasons, however, many games now exist only to 'trigger' people and provoke a reaction. They then ride of this popularity to gain sales. On such recent case of this has been 'Active shooter', a game that prides its self as letting the player "be a good guy or a bad guy". What this essentially means is that its a game that encourages the player to shooting up a (virtual) school. It justifies this by claiming that it allows the player to 'choose' to be the school shooter. Many have flocked to the game to defend it from those who have any kind of objection towards it. They claim that these people are trying to have the game censored and that removing the game would be a violation of free speech.

The truly disgusting part about these games is that they trivialise horrific real life events to make a quick buck. 'Active Shooter' was made shortly after a school shooting in America to raise controversy while the awful occurrence was still fresh in the minds of the world. There have been many more examples since of these kinds of games, prompting game sites and sellers to curate what they have closely to avoid these blemishes from surfacing. 'Active Shooter' was up for around a full week before it was finally disposed of by Valve.

We encourage the reader to not give these games any attention other than reporting them as they are only exploiting atrocities for money.

On a more cheery note, stay tuned for the nearly complete new technology soon to be featured on henstargames. Have a great day!

Real Life Survival Game

I found my BBC Microbit once again, so it's time for some more random projects. Last years survival game trend may be over, but that doesn't mean I am not going to give it a shot myself. Does Ready Boost Improve FPS

Ready boost has been around years, but does it do anything but destroy USB sticks? That's the question I have been asking myself. So I decided to put it to the test. I ran the video stress test feature on Source SDK base 2006 with and without the stick. Here is my results:

With Stick: 82.51

Without Stick: 90

From our results, it appears that the USB stick actually decreased the FPS achieved. The same peripherals, software and conditions were present for each test. The decrease is likely just due to how the video stress test works, but this proves that READY BOOST DOES NOT BOOST FPS.

(My laptop has 8 GB of RAM)

Game Of The Month

Welcome to this new format of post. Each month I will chose a game from distant past to the modern day to feature as 'game of the month'. This months game is Hard Drivin' . Hard Drivin' was an ambitious game for its time as a fully shaded 3rd racing game. When it first hit arcades it was a huge success, and with good reason too. The game simulates driving a car pretty realistically for its time and then has you race down either the 'speed route' (a high speed track) or a 'stunt route' that takes you over loop the loops, massive jumps and many other brilliant stunt opportunities. I would recommend playing it to this day if your a racing game fan.

Still love the gravity defying trucks. Stay tuned for next months game of the month as well as much, much more here on Henstar's Games.

Legend Of Zelda Themed NFC Card Holder (+ Download)

I put together this Zelda Themed NFC card holder for when I inevitably break one of my amiibos by treading on it or some other horrible (and accidental) execution. At least then I can safely house the NFC card. This holder has been designed to hold a wide range of cards, simply scale up the model to fit your card. If you want to attempt to create a custom amiibo, this holder might just be for you. If you make an amiibo out of this, send a video my way at henspare@gmail.com and I will post ot here! Half Life Siege Simulator Part 1 Complete

The first of the maps that will make up Half Life Siege Simulator has been finished. The map will be changed after all maps have been completed (mainly to link between maps). To play this little demo of the game, download the map from the link below, and put it in your hl1 map folder if not already there, then open the game and open the console and enter 'map castle_s_ladder'. This map showcases the deploy-able ladder and gives some background information on it. There will be one map on each medical siege device, so stay tuned for more and ultimately, the full release!

New game / mod in the works: Half Life Medieval Siege Simulator

I am making a mod for HL1 in which the player can partake in a historically accurate siege. The player's interactions will be basic at first, and there will be no enemies to fight but as time goes on I will add more content like the aforementioned. When I have finished the first build I will make it available for download (for free as always) with instructions on how to install it included, as obviously I cannot just freely distribute a slightly edited copy of Half Life. Stay tuned for updates and the completion of the mod! UPDATE: First part ready in new post.

Sustainable Nerf Gun

Branching out from the norm, I decided to start work on a sustainable battery powered Nerf gun (mainly because I am bored). When society finally collapses like its supposedly doomed to, how are we going to have a Nerf war? All the cool guns run on batteries. I came up with the following solution.

Mount a solar powered battery charger on to a Nerf gun. One set of rechargeable batteries will be in the gun, the other on the outside charging. Then, when the set inside the gun is depleted, swap them out for the ones that were charging. The used up ones get charged and the charged ones get used. The cycle continues. That solution seemed good but it had one flaw. What do we do when the sun goes out? That got me thinking of the alternatives. A saline solution powered battery charger mounted on to the gun. I don't know if such a thing even exists but if not I am going to make it anyway. They would mount to the rail on top of most Nerf guns, and so could be swapped out when light is / is not present. Salt water could be stored to power the charger. Salt could be extracted from... certain substances produced by humans and animals alike so too could water.

The first thing humanity will worry about when society collapses is how they are going to shoot each other with Nerf guns but now they need not threat. You can thank me later...

On a more serious note I am planing on releasing a new game soon so stay tuned! Oh, and on this Nerf gun's completion I will add some pictures and maybe even a video. W O W.

Tenfold Towering Turbine Troubles (Half Life Spinning Prop Example + Tutorial)

I recently purchased J.A.C.K off steam for around £10, and it instantly proved its worth. For those who do not know, J.A.C.K is a Quake 1 2 and 3 and Half Life map editor. It will be familiar to Hammer users and provides a few helpful bonuses too.

This purchase means I have been able to look in to Half Life mapping, so you can expect a lot of half life content coming soon.

The purpose of today's post is to show you how to make a spinning object in Half Life map editors (it is pretty much universal). To start, create the object you want to spin using the block tool. Once you have created your object, select it and press Ctrl + t. This should bring up the object properties menu. There should be a box at the top that says 'func_wall'. Change this to 'func_rotating'. Edit the values in the boxes to change how it behaves. If you want the object to spin upon the map starting go to the flags box and select 'start on'. That should be all that is required.

I have made a demo map based on spinning objects. My map is a room with ten rotors stacked on top of each other vertically. The goal of the player is to reach the top of the rotor tower and press the button without getting killed in the process. Its a map that will require a few tries, after which you should find the correct timing. On completion of the map, you can stand on the second to last rotor and get pushed down 1 layer at a time by the machine. The spinning turbines are all func_rotating objects. Below is the download for the map. You may upload it to the steam workshop somewhere if you want but please credit me and/or leave a link to this website. I hope you learnt what you wanted to find out and enjoyed the demo map if you played it. Have a great day!

CS:GO Framerate Finder

I have created a simple application that allows the user to find there frame rate in CS:GO. When activated, the user must open the in-game console within the next 15 seconds. It will then begin the test, and will show frame-rate, ping and other factors. It will do this ten times before closing. The download is available down below.

Click here to download the framerate finder.

Roman Candle Minigun Space Efficient Edit

I decided to make a small edit to a creation by the Hacksmith. He featured a 'Roman Candle Minigun' in one of his videos. I decided after seeing it to try 3D printing it out of curiosity (I did not intend on actually using it due to how unimaginably dangerous it was). I was immediately faced with a problem. The creation was slightly too big for my 3D printer. I decided to make my own more space efficient handle for it. My edited version (available down bellow) is a lot quicker to print and is a little smaller. It is not quite as ergonomic, but it will serve its purpose. I will be printing it but not firing it as I want to avoid being blasted to bits. Don't hurt yourself. Enjoy!

Download the 3D print file here!

How to connect a Wiimote to your computer

To do this, simply:

1. Open the Bluetooth settings on your device.

2. Select add device.

3. Open the battery cover on the Wiimote and hold down the red button.

4. A new device should be ready to pair. Select the device (it has nintendo in its name) and continue holding the red button until you feel the Wiimote rumble.

Positivity Ensurer

I have created this program for fun after playing CS:GO for a bit. If you ever find it hard to write positive things in chat, this will do it for you when you open the chat. Now you will never have to feel down again (until you get autosniped). You can download below! Some antiviruses may mark this as a virus. It is not, but you can check by right clicking the file and selecting edit to see the code. To stop it, use task manager to close it. Enjoy!

It works for other games too! (Download the program)

Nintendo Switch Bike Mount

Picture the scene: your riding your bike. The air rushes past you as you enjoy your favourite switch games. Your so engrossed that you don't notice the tree that you are flying towards and you smash into it, probably breaking you bike, the switch and parts of yourself. This could be you with my latest creation, the Nintendo Switch bike mount! As always, credit to  nikki_the_gryphon for the original case piece. This is more of a joke than an actual thing I expect people to use, but the download link is below. Also, please don't use this when riding your bike in public.

Automatic Room Maker Terraria

As a little bit of fun, I have started making an automatic house generator in Terraria. It is an external program that is essentially just a load of keyboard inputs one after another. This, if executed on flat terrain would allow for the automatic building of a house. It should be done soon, so subscribe to this blog if your interested, or just come back later.

EDIT: Turns out that there are so many things to go wrong that it will never work. Because of this, I will not be finishing this project

There will be random encounters, locations, characters, interactions etc. So far the character generator is nearing completion. The game will be available for download upon its completion. Stick around for regular updates! Also, leave any suggestions for the game, or scenarios / character names you want added in the comments. I will likely add all of them into the game.
